Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) from Logix are a great place to start your energy efficient home. ICFs are stay in place concrete forms used for the exterior structure of the home. They provide an insulation value of R-27, much greater than the R-19 of a traditional 2x6 wood framed wall. Not to mention a sustained 200 mph wind rating.
Passive Solar-- Being energy wise starts out with small steps that make a big impact. Knowing how a house should be placed on a particular lot can change monthly energy bills up to 10%. Positioning a home correctly will allow the sun to help heat the home in the winter and keep it shaded in the summer.
